CLIENT GOALS
More light, better appliance clearance, smarter storage, and a cohesive contemporary aesthetic.
This kitchen remodel in Paoli Pennsylvania was shaped by three clear priorities: create more usable space between the countertop and upper cabinets, bring more natural light into the room, and update the overall look with a warm contemporary style that still felt inviting for everyday family life.
The finished space brings those goals together through vertical grain walnut cabinetry, a large three-pane window over the sink, full-height quartz surfaces, carefully planned storage, and a layout that respects the homeowners' existing appliances while making the room feel brighter and more open.
What The Homeowners Wanted
The homeowners were not simply looking for a cosmetic update. They wanted a kitchen that worked better day to day. Small appliances needed more practical clearance, the room needed to feel brighter, and the finished design had to look intentional from every angle.

Just as important, the kitchen had to remain a welcoming place for gathering. The final design therefore focused on balancing beauty with livability, making room for prep, storage, conversation, and better circulation without losing the warmth of the home.
Design Challenges In This Paoli Kitchen
One of the biggest design challenges was the lower ceiling height. Without the right cabinet design and visual proportions, the space could easily have felt compressed. The kitchen also had to accommodate the homeowners' existing range and range hood, which required 36 inches of space between surrounding cabinets and influenced the storage plan around the cooking zone.

Material coordination was another major consideration. The new cabinetry needed to work with the existing hardwood floors rather than compete with them. At the same time, the project called for a full-height quartz backsplash even though the existing walls were out of plumb, which required careful planning to achieve a clean finished result.
How KBE Solved The Space
To make the room feel taller, KBE used vertical grain walnut cabinets that draw the eye upward and visually counter the lowered ceiling height. The larger window over the sink added daylight and made the entire perimeter feel more expansive. Because the taller window reduced traditional wall space for receptacles, pop-up outlets were integrated into the countertop around the sink to satisfy local code requirements while preserving a clean backsplash line.

Around the range wall, the surrounding cabinetry was planned carefully to maintain the clearance needed for the existing appliances while still delivering practical storage. The full-height quartz backsplash was broken with a stainless-steel panel behind the range, creating a functional and visually balanced focal point. To tie the new work into the rest of the home, multiple cabinet stain samples were reviewed in place until the right walnut tone was found to coordinate naturally with the existing hardwood flooring.
Standout Features of This Beautiful Kitchen
Several elements make this client's kitchen remodel especially memorable. The sink wall features a large three-pane window with casements on each side and a fixed center panel. The wall cabinets on either side were aligned to create symmetry and a more composed overall look. The warm walnut cabinetry pairs naturally with the darker wood flooring, while the quartz counters and backsplash keep the room feeling bright and crisp.
The project also includes a pocket door cabinet positioned on the countertop for easy-access storage, warm metal hardware that complements the wood tone, and a central island that expands workspace while reinforcing the kitchen's role as a gathering space. Every selection supports the same overall goal: a kitchen that feels elevated, practical, and comfortable to live in.
Why This Project Works So Well
What makes this project successful is the way every design move serves more than one purpose. The cabinetry makes the room look taller while delivering storage. The larger window adds light while visually expanding the sink wall. The finish palette modernizes the home while still respecting the warmth of the existing floors. Instead of relying on one dramatic gesture, the remodel succeeds through a series of thoughtful decisions that work together.
