EVERY DETAIL DESIGNED FOR YOUR NEEDS

Accessible Bathroom Remodeling, Lancaster County

Comfort and Safety With Flexibility

An accessible bathroom remodel makes everyday routines safer and easier for every person in your household, whether you're planning ahead, supporting a family member, or adjusting to a new mobility need. KBE Design Build has built ADA-compliant walk-in showers, wider doorways, and roll-under vanities for homeowners throughout Lancaster, Lititz, Ephrata, and Manheim since 2009. Every project is designed around how your household actually moves through the space, not a one-size-fits-all layout. Schedule a free consultation to see what's possible in your home.

ADA-Compliant Features Built Into Every Design

Every accessible bathroom remodel from KBE is built around safety and style together, not as a tradeoff. Too many accessible bathrooms end up feeling clinical because accessibility gets bolted on after the fact. We design it in from the first sketch, so grab bars, wider clearances, and curbless showers read as intentional design choices rather than medical equipment dropped into an otherwise ordinary room.

That starts with the layout itself: enough clear floor space to turn a wheelchair comfortably, a doorway wide enough for easy passage, and fixtures placed at heights that actually work for the people using them. From there, every finish decision gets the same attention as a standard remodel, so the room still feels like the rest of your home.

  • Zero-threshold walk-in showers
  • Grab bars in designer finishes
  • Wider doorways for easier wheelchair and walker access
  • Roll-under and adjustable-height vanities
  • Slip-resistant flooring
  • Lever-style faucet handles
  • Shower bench seating
  • Improved lighting for better visibility

Designed for Aging in Place or Any Mobility Need

Whether you're planning ahead for future needs, supporting a family member's mobility, or recovering from an injury or surgery, our design team builds a bathroom around your specific situation. That might mean a permanent solution for a household member who uses a wheelchair full time, or a more flexible design for a homeowner who wants to stay in their current house as their needs change over the years. Either way, the goal is the same: a bathroom that works for how you live now and adapts to what comes next, without giving up the look and feel of the rest of your home.

One Team for Design, Management, and Construction

KBE manages design and construction in-house, from the first measurement to the final walkthrough. That matters more on an accessible remodel than almost any other project, since small measurement errors, a grab bar in the wrong spot, or a doorway that's an inch too narrow can mean the difference between a bathroom that works and one that doesn't. One dedicated project manager keeps permits, scheduling, and communication on track from start to finish, so you're not coordinating between a separate designer and a separate contractor, or explaining your needs twice. We are designers that build, not contractors that design.

Check Oout This Accessible Remodel We Did in Lititz

This Lititz, PA bathroom needed to work for two wheelchair users and four other household members, without feeling clinical. That's a harder brief than it sounds: a space built around wheelchair access has to serve a busy family too, and the two goals can easily work against each other. KBE widened the entry with a pocket door to save floor space, built a curbless roll-in shower with a built-in bench, and installed a floating vanity and wall-mounted toilet to keep sightlines open for wheelchair turning radius. Warm white oak cabinetry, a decorative tile accent wall, and wall-mounted fixtures throughout keep the room feeling residential and polished rather than institutional. It's a good example of what's possible when accessibility is part of the design conversation from day one, not an afterthought.

Serving Homeowners Across Lancaster County

KBE completes accessible bathroom remodels throughout Lancaster, Lititz, Ephrata, Manheim, and the surrounding communities. A lot of Lancaster County's housing stock includes older farmhouses and mid-century homes that were never built with accessibility in mind: narrow hallways, single-step entries, and one main-floor bathroom shared by the whole household. We work within those constraints regularly, whether that means reworking a hallway wall to widen a doorway or reconfiguring plumbing to relocate a shower. Wherever your home falls on that spectrum, we'll walk you through what's realistic for your specific layout during your consultation.

Local Remodeling Expetise

KBE Design Build has been part of the Lancaster County remodeling community for more than 25 years, starting as Kitchens By Eileen before growing into a full design-build company under current owner Aaron Riddle. That history includes a 2026 Best of Houzz award for Service and Design, membership in the National Kitchen & Bath Association and the Building Industry Association of Lancaster County, and a PA Remodeling Contractor license (PA015613). It's the kind of track record that matters on an accessible remodel, where getting the details right the first time isn't optional.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Does insurance cover an accessible bathroom remodel?

Coverage varies widely by plan. Some insurance providers and Medicare cover specific medical equipment like grab bars, and VA benefits may help eligible veterans with home modifications. We recommend checking with your provider directly, and we're happy to talk through what's typically included in a remodel like this.

  • How long does an ADA bathroom remodel take?

Timelines depend on the scope of work, especially if the project involves structural changes like widening a doorway or reconfiguring plumbing. We'll walk you through a detailed project calendar as part of your proposal so you know what to expect at every stage.

  • Can you add grab bars without a full remodel?

In many cases, yes. Grab bars need to be anchored to wall blocking that isn't always present behind standard drywall, so we'll assess your bathroom first to determine whether it needs a straightforward retrofit or additional reinforcement.
